The present Afton House was built in 1963 after fire destroyed the original Inn.

The original Inn was built in the 1860s and served as a summer resort for families from the city. The Inn consisted of 40 rooms and featured two dining rooms and a ball room.

There was a spring-fed pond which supplied ice in the winter. The pond is no longer, but the depression is still there.

The resort featured tennis, a riding stable, and other recreational games.

Two of the original buildings still stand and have been incorporated with the rest of the Shirley and Bill's bed and breakfast.

The property was sold by the original family in 1953 and was purchased from that owner by the Stantons in 1988.

The main house and two adjoining houses now serve as a B & B and Antique shop.
